Listowel Writers’ Week

Lovely Listowel. The beautiful north Kerry town is home to a very special writers’ week that takes place each June, this year from the 1st – 5th. Ireland’s oldest literary and arts festival gives writers, artists and poets the opportunity to gather in this wonderful heritage town.

Writing of all genres is promoted within a creative environment in which literature can be appreciated by the widest possible audience – where writers and readers gather to celebrate the written word together.

With a programme packed full of events such as literary panel discussions, moderated talks, poetry readings, cultural tours and much more, Listowel is well worth putting on your list for the beginning of June.

Siamsa Tíre, Tralee

Things are a little different at Siamsa Tíre this summer.  The team at the National Folk Theatre of Ireland and Tralee’s arts centre is looking forward to a more diverse offering than usual during the busy season including comedy gigs, music concerts and theatre; the summer programme of events is one to keep an eye on. We’ve picked out two unique shows taking place there this bank holiday weekend.

Friday 27th May a concert featuring Leonard Barry and Seamie O’Dowd.  A native of Tralee, Leonard is widely regarded as one of the best pipers in Ireland. Seamie is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who often performs with Christie Moore.  The music they make together is not to be missed.

Sunday May 29th, Siamsa Tíre will host a Dance Showcase with the Irish Dance World Cup Team. These are dancers from all over Ireland who will represent the country at the Dance World Cup in Spain this June. Expect to see ballet, lyrical, contemporary and jazz dances featured in their world-class routines.
