Ballydonoghue Bardic Festival | Ballydonoghue

March 24, 2022 March 27, 2022

The Journey Still Continues 24th to 27th March, 2022

Get out your Diaries! Ballydonoghue is to have another festival in March, 2022.

Two Hundred years ago, Lisselton Bardic School in the parish of Ballydonoghue was famous throughout Munster and beyond for Poetry and Learning. It was the seat of The Court of The Wise, Cúirt na Súagh, led by Pádraig Liath Ó Conchubhair, hedge schoolmaster, poet, teacher, writer and native Irish speaker.

On March 24th to 27th, 2022, the Ballydonoghue Bardic Festival, an annual weekend festival to celebrate this outstanding literary tradition, will be held in Lisselton, North Kerry.

A programme of events is being planned with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment as much as on culture.

Competitions in creative writing in Irish and English will be held during the run-up to the festival, with prizes for the Junior and Adult winners to be awarded on opening night.

Music, writing and Sean-Nós dancing workshops will take place on Saturday, with a Grand Festival Concert being planned for Saturday night.

An hour of Caint agus Comhrá as Gaeilge on Sunday morning at 11 o’clock, followed by an open-microphone session, will bring the festival to a close at 2 pm.

Bi-lingual Literary Festival with culture and fun! Literary competitions, writing, dance and traditional music workshops, concert and open mic events.
